On one hand, an awareness campaign is underway across the country to boost voter turnout. Various strategies are being employed to encourage educated individuals to head to the polling booths. Simultaneously, the voters of Solda, a tribal-dominated village in the Mehrauni constituency of Lalitpur, set a remarkable example by achieving 100 percent voter turnout by 1 pm. Notably, a young man from the village traveled by plane from Bangalore specifically to cast his vote. Additionally, two other villages in Lalitpur also achieved 100 percent voter turnout
100 percent voter turnout
On the one hand, during the voting held in Jhansi-Lalitpur on Monday in the fifth phase of the Lok Sabha elections, there were reports of boycotts in several areas. In contrast, in the village of Solda in the Mehrauni constituency, the tribal-dominated electorate achieved 100 percent voter turnout by 1 pm. At booth number 277, located in the village’s primary school, all 375 registered voters cast their ballots. This included 198 men and 177 women. From early morning, voters arrived at the polling station dressed in traditional Bundeli attire, singing and dancing as they came to vote. By noon, 374 of the voters had already cast their votes.
When the presiding officer reviewed the list, he noticed that a young man from the village, Sher Singh Yadav, had not yet cast his vote. Upon investigating, the presiding officer learned that Sher Singh was traveling from Bangalore and was en route. Sher Singh Yadav arrived at the polling center at 1 pm and cast his vote, resulting in a 100 percent voter turnout.
Best encouraged by the administration
Sher Singh Yadav explained that he was continually encouraged by the administration and the village head to come and vote. On Monday morning, he took a flight from Bangalore to Bhopal, arriving in Bhopal at nine in the morning. From there, he traveled by car to his village, arriving in the afternoon to cast his vote. The journey from Bangalore to his village cost him Rs 17,000.
Booth number 355 in Bamouri Nagal village of Lalitpur also saw a 100 percent voter turnout, with all 441 voters casting their ballots by 4 pm. Similarly, at booth number 195 in Budni village, all 215 registered voters cast their votes.
